Puppr consists of an Augmented Reality mobile app and a fully responsive website, both connected to a real-time database.
Designed and developed by me over the course of about 6 months. The overall goal of Puppr was to provide a highly interactive mobile app that both entertains and educates its users about pet care while also providing them with a way for them to share their progress with others.
I’ve observed the following situation many times: A child wishes to get a dog and asks their parents if they can get one. The parent responds by saying that they don’t have time to care for the dog and that the child doesn’t have the required skills or dedication to do so either.
Puppr provides a way for the child in this situation (or anyone) to prove that they do in fact have the knowledge and dedication to undertake this task. The app offers lessons so that increase the user's knowledge of best practices when caring for a dog.
Including dietary constraints, medical care etc. that even experienced pet owners may not even know. The main idea was to provide a fun and engaging way to learn about pet care and responsibility. Additionally, the user receives feedback on their progress and has a means of displaying this progress to their parent or guardian.
Production of this project forced me to work through the full development lifecycle from start to finish. I began with research into my users and competitors. I later expanded my research to include technologies I could leverage.
I began to understand my users by creating personas and surveys to generate data from real-world potential users. I used social media to get feedback from parents and visited a local national school to get feedback from the children.
I usually start design work on paper and bring more refined ideas to Adobe xD or Illustrator for wireframing and low fidelity mockups. The main idea behind the style for this app was to toe the line between being modern and clean while still being colourful and maintaining visual interest for kids. The website was designed to be used by parents.
