In January 2022, the organisation had just acquired 3 other companies and two of them had their own design systems. I was tasked with leading our design and engineering teams, taking the best aspects of each system, and creating something new that aligned with everyone's needs.
I conceptualised and defined our new look and feel and played it back to leadership to get buy-in and ensure alignment. I then facilitated weekly meetings, involving key stakeholders in design and development at each step of the process. During this period, I mentored and led a small team of junior visual designers in the production of the core components in Figma, simultaneously producing spec for our development team to follow when building the system. I then created our data visualisation library in and set the entire system up for dark-theme. I conducted design systems work (which included UX design, visual, interaction design and front-end development and documentation) while also overseeing the dev work and supporting our UX designers in using the system.
I worked closely with our front-end team to ensure that the coded side of the system was in alignment with the spec, contributing to the system code itself while writing and building out our documentation website in React using Gatsby. I implemented and enabled a dark theme on our documentation site as a parting gift for the team.
