Overview

I joined Altus group in 2018 as a UI/UX Designer, to work on an enterprise B2B, Saas product focused on commercial real-estate acquisitions. Half my time was spent also developing a design system called Frame.

The story

The initiative had already begun when arrived at the company and buy-in had been achieved. l enhanced and helped to socialise the design system to stakeholders in engineering & product at various stages throughout the project to maintain alignment.

I conducted design systems work (which included UX design, visual, interaction design and front-end development and documentation) while overseeing the dev work and supporting our UX designers in using the system. I also built a testing website in Angular to support the quality of output on the code side.

We worked closely with our designers & engineers, tested early & often. We also facilitated conversations designers and developers to find pain-points for the design system framework. Additionally, I lead the UX organisation's evangelism and outreach efforts. Writing, speaking & coaching both internal & external people on best practices when using the system. I also mentored designers to level up their skills.

Results

After elevating our teams output consistency & perceived brand, I continued to maintain and enhance the system. I took on more responsibilities in mentoring other designers and front-end developers, as well as being the point person UI standards and design patterns across the company.

We released 12 major versions, and Frame was used on over 15 projects and products over its lifetime. It was sunset in 2021 to make way for my next design system project, Fusion.
